Mary Adkins

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

We were so excited when Mary Adkins brought her adventurous spirit and kind heart to the GH platform. She joined us as she was a wandering yogi exploring the west coast, but is now settled back into her hometown of Milwaukee, WI. A mental health advocate, Mary chose to support American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Mary began practicing meditation and yoga regularly in 2016, received her 200HR Vinyasa Yoga certification in 2017 and completed her 300HR certification in 2020. Up until the beginning of this year, she was the studio manager of Yoga Six Milwaukee and taught weekly yoga classes for a handful of yoga studios in Wisconsin. She is also the co-founder of Good Space Retreats.

Mary always layers in an energetic component into her teaching and is passionate about educating her students about the transformative path that yoga can offer. While featured with us, Mary was taking time to celebrate her recent marriage and travel the US with her husband, Brandon, and cat, Griz.

Mary chose to dedicate her series to the American Foundation for Suicide prevention because of the work that they do in supporting mental health and preventing suicide. Mary’s own relationship with yoga has always been rooted in the self help benefits of the mindfulness based practice. As someone who continues to struggle with their own mental health, Mary wanted to bring more awareness to a subject that is often perceived as taboo.  As humans the best thing that we can do is offer support to one another by talking about our low points and raising awareness because nobody deserves to feel alone.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies: Funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention and supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide.
